Evocations: San Carlos revisits centuries of its own collection

Evocaciones

September 25, 2018 – September 29, 2018

The Museo Nacional de San Carlos opened its vaults to assemble Evocations, a journey through a collection built over centuries with two souls: pieces that served as models to train the Academy’s artists, and a trove of Western art. The show crosses different aesthetic currents and reveals how people were once taught to look and to paint. Among the works stand out the copies of Raphael that circulated in Mexico and taught audiences to admire the Italian master. It is the history of art and of teaching at once. With ArtGuide each room evokes a different chapter.
