A hundred years without Saturnino Herrán, the modernist from Aguascalientes
100 años sin Saturnino Herrán
September 27, 2018 – February 23, 2019
The MUNAL joined the centenary of Saturnino Herrán’s death with the most representative works of one of the essential painters of twentieth-century Mexico. Trained at the Academy of San Carlos, Herrán died very young, yet he managed to fix a gaze of his own on the indigenous and the popular, far from exoticism. Works such as Labor or La Tehuana reveal his gift for drawing and his tenderness toward his country’s faces. Organized with the Cultural Institute of Aguascalientes, the show is a necessary reunion. ArtGuide helps you read each painting unhurried.
