All the Other: the personal mythology of Germán Venegas

The Museo Tamayo revisits the work of Germán Venegas, one of the Mexican artists who has best blended traditions and mythologies into a language of his own. All the Other traces that hybridization: the pre-Hispanic and the baroque, carving and painting, the sacred and the carnal. In one room, a series of self-portraits with skulls shows him thinking aloud about death and the transitory, from flesh to bone to dust. It is an honest and at times overwhelming show.
