Gyula Halász was born in Transylvania, came to Paris in 1924 to become a painter, and ended up as Brassaï, the photographer who best understood the Parisian night. The Eye of Paris gathers his images of cafes, graffiti, wet streets and figures on the margins, with that blend of elegance and rawness that made him famous. Brassaï did not photograph the postcard but the life that pulses once the avenue’s lights go out. The show is also a portrait of an era.
